How To Make Sure Your Dental Implants Stay Strong And Healthy

by Gregory Price

If your teeth are damaged beyond traditional dental care, you may want to consider dental implants. Dental implants can change your life by both changing the appearance of your smile and allowing you to chew, bite, and speak normally again. If you choose to get dental implants, you can treat them like your natural teeth, which includes caring for them properly. Here are some tips to ensure you keep your dental implants strong and healthy to ensure they last as long as possible:

Practice Good Oral Hygiene

Just like natural teeth, you need to take care of your implants every day. Brush your teeth twice every day and floss daily. You may also want to rinse with a good mouthwash every day as well to kill bad bacteria. If you still have some natural teeth, you need to keep them clean and healthy as well. You cannot get cavities in your implanted teeth, but your other teeth can still decay.

Get Your Normal Dental Checkups

Although your dental implants are not natural teeth, you still need to go to the dentist twice a year like normal. You not only need to keep your remaining natural teeth healthy, but the dentist will keep an eye on the progress of your implants. If there are any problems with your implants, the dentist will have you go to your dental surgeon to have any issues addressed. The dentist will also check the health of your gums and other oral tissues along with your other teeth.

Follow Proper Implant Care Protocol

Once you get dental implants, your doctor will ask you to follow a set of protocols to ensure your implants heal and thrive. There are some foods and drinks you should not have right after you get dental implants. Eventually, you will be able to enjoy most foods. Be sure to check with your doctor if you have any questions about items you should not eat or drink. You should also try to avoid tobacco use if possible.

Deal with Problems Right Away

If you experience any issues with your dental implants, do not wait to have them checked out by your doctor. You should not have any swelling, bleeding, or pain after the first day or so of getting your dental implants. If you have any issues, you should not risk further problems or pain by putting off your care. Small problems can suddenly become significant if you do not get them checked as soon as possible.

About Me

Fighting Dental Disease: Learn More About It Here

Up until a year ago, I did my best to keep my teeth and gums clean. But after securing a new job, I began to work late into the night and didn't have the time or energy to brush and floss before I retired to bed. My busy schedule and poor dental hygiene finally affected my teeth and gums. After experiencing severe pain in several of my teeth, I made an appointment with my dentist. My dentist examined my mouth and discovered three large cavities in my molars. After four long weeks, my dentist finally completed my dental work. I learned a very painful lesson during that time. No matter how busy you are, always brush and floss. I started this blog to inform other people about the importance of good dental care. I hope you find the time to read it. Thanks for visiting.
